Let’s GO!
“Nestled within the scenic Mobile-Tensaw Delta, Historic Blakeley State Park is one of the largest and most diverse attractions within the Gulf Coast region.”
Here’s the interesting twist! This particular state park is the site of the last major battle of the Civil War. Many of the trenches and famous landmarks still remain today. Hike alongside history and learn about generals, soldiers and others who took part in the Battle of Fort Blakeley on April 9, 1865.
Blakeley State Park is also the home of the historic Town of Blakeley which was chartered in 1814 by the legislature of the Mississippi Territory. Blakeley was a bustling place in the 1820s, with numerous homes, businesses, a newspaper and one of the earliest steamboat construction facilities in the state. Blakeley was one of the largest cities in Alabama and a commercial rival to the City of Mobile on the other side of Mobile Bay. The town was brought down by economic factors and recurring epidemics of yellow fever.
At Historic Blakeley State Park, you can also find evidence of American Indian habitation from the Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian and historic periods.
Historic Blakeley State Park stretches across 2,100 acres of the largest National Register Historic Site in the eastern half of the United States. With twenty miles of wooded trails to hike, bike or run, it’s no wonder this park is a favorite among locals and visitors.
Other activities to enjoy include Delta cruises, camping, horseback riding & kayaking.
The Park is open to visitors, 8 AM until dusk, 7 days a week all year long! Visit today!
